Types of Bikes

There are many different types of bikes that will suit different conditions, different ages and types of riding. For example, when you first start riding you will probably ride a kids bike which is pretty basic in its set up and will be helpful as you learn the basics of balance and safe riding.

As you get older you might start to really enjoy riding off-road, which takes in bumpy trails and riding through nature – this is when the mountain bike is the perfect choice. Or speed might be more your thing, meaning a road bike or perhaps a hybrid might be for you. And let’s not forget about the trick riders out there who might want to show off their stunts on a BMX.

The type of bike you choose will probably be linked to the type of riding you like, or maybe the conditions around where you live – the city for example might be best for hybrid bikes. Another important thing to remember is that each bike is built differently to suit the environment you are riding in.

In this video Aussie cycling world champion Alex Porter takes you through the different types of bikes available.
